Why we exist, where we are going, and the values that guide every step.
“To glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ, building a loving community of faith, and serving the people of Moncton and New Brunswick with compassion and purpose.”
This statement is not merely words on a wall — it is the heartbeat of everything we do at Cherryfield Baptist Church. Every program we run, every service we hold, every outreach we conduct flows from this singular calling: to honour God by loving people well.
We envision Cherryfield Baptist Church as a thriving, outward-facing congregation that is deeply formed in Christ and radically committed to the wellbeing of our city. In the years ahead, we are pursuing:
Six convictions that shape our culture and guide every decision we make
We trust God completely — in abundance and in scarcity, in clarity and in confusion. Faith is not a feeling but a daily, deliberate decision to believe what God has said and act on it. We cultivate faith through prayer, Scripture, worship, and the shared testimony of our community.
We were made for relationship — with God and with one another. At Cherryfield, we resist the isolation of modern life by intentionally building genuine friendships, supporting one another through life's joys and sorrows, and living as a true family of faith.
Jesus was moved with compassion when He saw people who were hurting and lost (Matthew 9:36). We seek to carry that same spirit into every interaction — with our neighbours, our city, and the world. Compassion is not optional; it is central to the Gospel we proclaim.
We are committed to transparency, honesty, and accountability in all we do — from our financial stewardship as a registered Canadian charity to the personal conduct of every leader and volunteer. We aim to be a community whose character matches its confession.
The church exists not for itself but for the world. We believe that every believer is called to serve — within the congregation and beyond. From greeting newcomers on Sunday morning to feeding families through our food pantry, service is how we demonstrate the love of Christ in tangible ways.
We are committed to lifelong growth — spiritually, relationally, and intellectually. We refuse to settle for shallow Christianity. Through discipleship, mentorship, Bible study, and honest community, we encourage every member of our congregation to press deeper into God and become more fully the person He created them to be.
Moncton is a growing, diverse, and dynamic city — one of the fastest-growing urban centres in Atlantic Canada. It is a city of newcomers and long-time residents, of young families and aging seniors, of prosperity and significant pockets of need. We believe that God has placed Cherryfield Baptist Church at this intersection of needs and opportunities for a reason.
We see ourselves as a community institution — not merely a religious organization holding weekly services, but a living, breathing expression of God's kingdom in the heart of the city. We are neighbours, friends, advocates, volunteers, and above all, followers of Jesus who are trying to love this city the way He does.
Our charitable registration (BN: 823444591RR0001) is more than a tax designation — it is a public commitment that the resources entrusted to this congregation will be used for the genuine betterment of the community. Every dollar given by our members, every hour volunteered by our people, flows toward that mission.
We are not a perfect church — no such church exists. But we are a church that is genuinely trying: to love well, to serve faithfully, to preach truthfully, and to be the kind of community that Moncton is glad to have in its midst.
Questions about what we believe? Find answers to the most common ones below.
Baptist churches are Protestant Christian congregations that trace their roots to the early 17th century. Key distinctives include: the sole authority of the Bible, salvation by grace through personal faith, believer's baptism by immersion, the autonomy of the local congregation, and the separation of church and state. Baptists have historically championed religious liberty and freedom of conscience for all people.
Absolutely not. Our Sunday services and all community programs are open to everyone, regardless of background, belief, or baptism status. If you are exploring faith or simply curious, you are warmly welcome. We only require baptism for formal church membership, and even then we are happy to walk through that journey with you at whatever pace is right for you.
We believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God and the supreme authority for faith and practice. Our preaching is expository — we work through books of the Bible systematically, seeking to understand what each passage meant in its original context and what it means for our lives today. We take the Bible seriously, read it carefully, and seek to apply it practically.
We believe the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Trinity — fully God, present and active in the world today. The Spirit convicts of sin, brings about new birth, indwells every believer, produces the fruit of godly character, gifts believers for ministry, and empowers the church for its mission. We seek to be a community that is sensitive and responsive to the Spirit's leading.
Our Sunday morning service runs approximately 75–90 minutes and includes a time of sung worship led by our worship team, a Scripture reading, a sermon typically 35–40 minutes in length, a time of prayer, and an opportunity to respond in faith. We also offer children's programming running concurrently for ages 0–12. Our services are warm, accessible, and designed to be meaningful whether you are a long-time believer or attending for the very first time.
